All winter long, I found myself craving hot chocolate—but not the standard milk or dark chocolate version I’ve had countless times before. I wanted something different, something a little more refined. So, on a quiet snow day in January, I decided to take a familiar comfort and give it a fresh perspective. Instead of traditional hot chocolate, I reached for Ghirardelli white chocolate, known for its smooth, buttery texture. To balance its natural sweetness, I added a carefully curated blend of warm spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and just a touch of cayenne. The result was exactly what I had hoped for: a velvety, indulgent drink with layers of warmth and complexity. It was comforting yet unexpected, nostalgic yet elevated—a drink I knew I would be making again and again.
Ingredients:
2 cups oat milk (or your preferred milk alternative) I personally prefer oat milk for its naturally creamy texture, which complements the richness of the white chocolate beautifully.
1/2 cup heavy cream (for extra richness, optional)
1/2 cup Ghirardelli white chocolate chips or finely chopped white chocolate
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for heat preference)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
Ground cinnamon or white chocolate shavings, for garnish
Instructions:
Warm the Milk & Cream
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil—just warm it until it starts steaming.Melt the White Chocolate
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the white chocolate, whisking continuously until fully melted and smooth.Add the Spices
Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cayenne pepper, and a small pinch of sea salt. Whisk well to ensure everything is evenly incorporated. Taste and adjust the spice level if needed.Finish with Vanilla
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.Serve & Garnish
Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon, and white chocolate shavings for a festive touch.
